Low-Profile AM Broadcast

STAR-H Corporation has developed a new, FCC-approved low-profile transmitting antenna suitable for use in MF (US AM Band) and other broadcasting applications. Developed for Kintronic Labs, and based on STAR-H's line of Low Profile Antennas,the patented Low-Profile AM Broadcast Antennas has been:

  • Full-scale tested and verified at 1680 kHz
  • FCC approved for non-directional Class B, C, and D AM  stations without requirements for proof of performance testing
  • Verified to be 93% efficient as the standard quarter-wave monopole at less than 1/3 of the height

Constructed using overhead power transmission line hardware and techniques, the relatively low construction costs and high efficiency make the STAR-H Low profile AM Broadcast Antenna a cost-effective alternative to the quarter wave monopole. The antenna is predicted by NEC computer modeling to be 93% as efficient as a standard quarterwave monopole antenna, but is less than one-third the height, and measurements of the experimental test antenna show efficiencies meeting or exceeding this amount. This is the most efficient reduced-height antenna design available today.

The antenna is sold and supported worldwide by Kintronic´s Laboratories, as the KinStar™ low-profile AM/MF antenna system.

Papers describing the antenna concept, testing, and NEC modeling results were presented in October 2002 and October 2003 at the IEEE Broadcast Technology Conferences in Washington DC, in April 2003 at the NAB Show, and in the conference record from the IBC 2003.

This unique design was awarded US Patent Number 6,580,398.
